How to choose a good TWS headset?

With the development of smartphone technology, many brands of mobile phones such as Apple, Samsung, Oppo, Vivio, Huawei have cancelled the design of the 3.5mm headphone jack, and more and more users use Bluetooth headsets instead of them during outdoor exercise or commuting. The problem of Wi-Fi coexistence is a key topic of TWS products, because its size is very compact, and the wireless on TWS is much smaller than classic Bluetooth earbuds. The long delay of the TWS button function and the intermittent music due to frequency coexistence problems are to be expected.

These connection problems will lead to a very bad user experience. Users may give bad reviews to the brand, which will have a great negative impact on the brand impression and at the same time affect the sales performance of the product.

In this article, we have selected 4 different models of TWS products from Ainovo to study the performance changes of these earplugs when they are disturbed, such as degradation and functionality.

Test setup

All tests are carried out in a shielded room to isolate other external radio interference to maintain the consistency of the test. We used an audio precision analyzer to accurately measure the sound quality. The entire setup environment is shown in Figure 2.

We provide different coexistence scenarios for this particular test. There are several wireless communication technologies (WiFi, BT, and LTE), and various devices can be simulated or created for different frequencies. Under this coexistence condition, we use 3 mobile phones communicating with 3 Wi-Fi APs as interference sources.

How do we measure the performance of TWS?

For the button function delay judgment, we calculate the response time when the button is pressed and the music stops (or pauses). The response time should be as short as possible. We will conduct several tests and calculate the average time required for the headset to respond
